Martino di Castrozza, Valli del Primiero e Vanoi.
Delicious dishes and ancient traditions amid a very
charming and unspoiled landscape.
The Primero and Vanoi valleys lie in the eastern part
of Trentino, on the borders of Veneto. The landscape
of Valle di Primiero presents a large basin in which
cultivated fields, extensive pastures, dense woods
and waterways flowing from the little side valleys,
form the background to the small human settlements
which conserve the atmosphere of alpine villages of
long ago in their historical centers. The valley is
scoured by the Cismon torrent which rises in Passo
Rolle, the pass connecting Primiero with Valle di
Fiemme and which has always been of great strategic
importance as a communication route. The valley is
bounded to the east by the Pale di San Martino Group,
defined by the geographer Cesare Battisti as "the
superb amphitheatre of the Dolomite Alps", lying
in the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park.
Valle del Vanoi, situated to the west of Val Primiero,
nestles between the western part of the Paneveggio-Pale
di San Martino Nature Park and Lagorai, an area of
totally unspoiled nature which is more or less unique
in Trentino. Centuries old forests cover the mountain
slopes with green pastures and alpine lakes and rock
peaks rising dramatically above.
