Passeier Museum - Andreas Hofer.
A new museum has been inaugurated at the Sandhof,
the family inn of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas
Hofer (1767-1810). The figure of Andreas Hofer and
the Tyrolean battle for freedom in 1809 form the main
thematic points of a documentary film and many original
exhibitions. A comprehensive collection of Passeier
Valley folklore is housed in the former barn. A listening
room offers individual access to the music, legends,
folktales, and literature of the valley. The open-air
area, with numerous buildings of the 16th to 19th
cen., a typical Passeier farm complex, the Sacred
Heart Chapel (1899), and the Holy Sepulcher Chapel
(1691) round out the visit. The museum also looks
after the French Cemetery, Jaufenburg Castle, and
the Alpine Pasture Museum in Pfistrad as additional
branches.
