St.
Johan at Müstair.
The Benedict abbey St. John at Müstair in Switzerland
behind the border was probably built by "Karl
d. Großen" and was subordinated to the
emperor until 881. The monastery, which develloped
itself to the religious centre of Obervinschgau is
famous today of its frescs, the greatest "Karolinger"
cyclus in Europe. The frescs are well conserved and
arrange calm. Behind the statue of "Karl d. Großen"
there you can see a romantic picture cyclus with scenes
of the old testament. It can be also recommended to
visit the little museum and the rooms of the monastery.
