Breguzzo is a lovely village, surrounded by meadows
and fields, between the Valle del Chiese and the Valle
del Sarca. The countryside is pleasantly mountainous
and, given its average altitude (800 m) with its excellent
dry and fresh Alpine climate, it is particularly recommended
for holidays in a healthy climate for senior citizens.
There are a range of sports facilities for the young
(tennis, football, rock-climbing) as well as opportunities
for interesting walks in the still unspoiled surroundings.
The origin of the name Breguzzo is extremely complex
and has changed over the years (Bregunzio 927 AD,
Burgusio 1193, Breguzzo 1667). The reason for the
changes is that there are two sources for the name:
a Celtic one, going back to the time of the Cenomani
Gauls, and a Lombard one. There is also a legend according
to which Breguzzo was founded by a charcoal-maker
who wore very large trousers or "bragaze".
The old road which connected the province of Brescia
with western Trentino ran through Breguzzo.
A road (11 km) runs from the village into the Valle
di Breguzzo, a picturesque valley in the Adamello-Brenta
Natural Park, surrounded by fertile fields, furrowed
along its whole length by the river Arnò, and
enclosed to the north by a beautiful chain of mountains
which reach 3,000 meters.
From an geological as well as a scientific point of
view, it as an interesting nature reserve. There are
huts and alpine pastures for the recreation of all
keen hikers.
