The two built-up areas of San Michele and Grumo are
evidence of antique cultures. The artistic Baroque
church and the Agostinian monastery, old headquarters
of the authorities around which lies San Michele,
were for centuries the scene of long standing disputes
between the Counts of Tyrol and the Prince-Bishops
of Trento.
Inside these buildings today is the museum "Degli
Usi e dei Costumi delle Genti Trentine" (Museum
of Uses and Customs of the Trentino People) leaving
traces of a culture from the entire provincial territory.
For thousands of visitors it is a destination which
brings to mind the ancient and more recent recollections
of the population of Trentino. The extraordinarily
interesting ethnographic collection and the constant
research make it one of the most distinguished museums
of this kind in the whole Alpine area. The world fame
of the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all´Adige,
with its traditional wine-making culture, together
with the Institute for the Technology of Wood, applies
to the National Council for Scientific Research, and
confirms the professional work in the agricultural,
wine growing and forestry sector.
It is therefore a must for lovers of art and the
old traditions but particularly for those who wish
to truly flavour a scenic walk among the vineyards
or along the Adige with its gentle, relaxing flow.
