Martino di Castrozza.
San Martino opened to tourism during the last decades
of the 1800s thanks to the arrival of English and
German mountaineers. The first hotel was built in
1873, since then San Martino has hosted celebrities
such as S. Freud, Krupp and King Leopold II of Belgium.
San Martino is simple and precious, elegant and disengaged.
Arthur Schnitzler, in his novel "Miss Elsa",
at the beginning of the century, wrote: "The
air of San Martino sparkles like champagne",
and Richard Strauss found inspiration here to compose
his famous "Symphony of the Alps".
Those who come here find themselves in the presence
of magnificent scenery with thick woods and rock needles
which are colored pink and then fiery red in the sunset:
the enrosadira. The woods guard secrets and legends,
like the one about Mazarol, a wild man who taught
the local people the art of dairy, the Guane, small
fairies with feet back to front, who protect nature,
and the Caza Beatrik, a terrible male figure accompanied
by dogs with five paws who terrified wayfarers.
As far as connection to the place is concerned, for
the tourist coming from inside Italy the A4 motorway
- exit Dueville is the most comfortable or the A13
motorway - exit Padova Ovest. Exit the A22 Autostrada
del Brennero motorway at Ora and then traverse Val
die Fiemme valley and over Passo Rolle pass for those
who love to travel and look at the scenery.
