Piné
e CembraLona-Lases.
LASES - The village is situated on the edge of a green
plain of terraced fluvial-glacial alluvia among the
high rocks of Montesele, Dos dal Pin and the northern
shores of the Lases lake, where the old relict valley
perpendicularly meets the current deep furrow of the
Avisio river compared with which it is higher.
The place is also called Lases pass because it lies
on the watershed between the Avisio and the Fersina.
The old village centre conserves its Avisio "cormel"
features. The houses are made of porphyry stone and
have porches, roofs covered with porphyry slates and
galleries. In the main square stands the isolated
bell tower of the old 16th century church of the Visitation,
demolished in the last century to enlarge the square.
On the southern side, above the sun dial, a stone
bears the date 1853.
The parish church of the Visitazione di Maria is below
the porphyry rocks of Dos dal Pin, along the old Lona
road. It was built here between 1888 and 1890.
The village is one of the capitals of the porphyry
quadrilateral: quarries and porphyry preparation.
Traditionally an agricultural centre (honey production),
it is also a summer holiday resort.
LONA - Situated on a moraine tableland between the
Monesi woods and Dosso di Lona. The 17th century parish
church of S.G.Battisti was rebuilt in 1903 and has
frescoes by Vittorio Bertoldi inside. The houses in
the village centre are grouped in the characteristic
"cormel". Dosso di Lona, a few minutes from
the village, offers a wonderful panorama of the Cembra
valley, the surrounding mountains and the Brenta Dolomites.
On the opposite side of the Cembra valley with Campagna
Rasa and Faver. An iron beam stuck in the rock is
a reminder of plans to create a reservoir for hydroelectric
power; the dam would have trapped the flow of the
Avisio river. On Dos Carneval it is the custom to
"burn the carnival" on Shrove Tuesday evening.
Grapes and chestnuts are produced and there is a woodcraft
industry.
