Folgaria,
Lavarone e Luserna.
Charming countryside covered with meadows and pastures
and featured by records of the First World War. Lake
Lavarone and numerous mountain bike trails.
The "Altipiani Trentini" (plateaus of Trentino)
border to the north with the Valsugana, to the south
with the Val di Terragnòlo, to the west with
the Vallagarina - Val d´Adige and to the east
with the Altipiano di Asiago and the Val d´Astico
(province of Vicenza).
Their landscape is typical of the wide Alpine terraces,
although the extensive plateaus of meadows alternate
with the deep valley gorges from which rise the rocky
peaks all the way up to 2,000 m, everything blended
into a succession of grazing lands, Alpine summer
pastures, thick fir forests and tumbling streams.
Perfectly placed within this green setting is the
Lago di Lavarone, a small karstic lake of very pure
water. Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna are three distinct
villages linked by history: the German-Cimbric colonization
(10th - 13th century) of which Luserna is a living
proof (´Cimbrian´, the ancient language
referable to Middle High German, is still spoken there),
and then the experience of the rural communities the
most significant example of which is the so-called
Magnifica Comunità di Folgaria, the border
struggles and the fortifications of the First World
War (1915-18) of which the impressive remains are
fortresses, redoubts and trenches.
