Alto
Garda, Valle di Ledro, Valle dei LaghiVezzano.
An old village which was granted the status of "borgo"
or town in 1527 by the Cardinal Bernardo Clesio for
the loyalty of its inhabitants during the Peasants´
Revolt. The town lies in a depression between two
glacial rocky outcrops and it has a transitional climate
(mixing olive trees and holm oaks) between the Mediterranean
climate of the Toblino depression and the pre-Alpine
climate of the Terlago depression.
The "Stoppani" geological path, with glacial
kettle holes (about 20 in total) discovered in 1875
by Antonio Stoppani, passes near to the town.
Nearby hamlets: Fraveggio where vegetables are intensively
cultivated, Ciago, Lon, Ranzo, Margone which offers
a wonderful view of the Valle dei Laghi, and Santa
Massenza with the lake of the same name which has
one of the largest hydroelectric power stations in
Italy. Specialties: Vino Santo, Nosiola white wine,
eau-de-vie and broccoli.
