These are enchantingly beautiful hills, bursting with history and tradition. We wind through nature trails lined with sixteenth and nineteenth century villas displaying an evocative decaying beauty, centuries-old olive groves and vineyards and parish churches with lofty bell-towers.

This is ideal terrain for a bicycle ride, commencing on the slopes of Pieve S.Stefano and descending through S.Gennaro, past Montecarlo towards the hills of Porcari and Altopascio, where vineyards are abundant and the land is set out according to an ancient geometry dictated by the rows of vines. Here the DOC wines "Colline Lucchesi" and "Montecarlo" are produced. Here the climate is mild, the vineyards face south and are surrounded by heights which protect them from northern cold - all this contributes to the creation of strong, healthy wine with low sugar content and intense fragrance.
