SpasFlorence.
The tourist area leading to Florence obviously has
in the chief town such an important attraction pole,
that it is difficult to highlight the interesting
attractions of the surrounding territory, even though
they are numerous. However, in the environs of Florence
it is possible to follow infinite routes with very
articulated subjects and always very high contents
regarding cultural, environmental and naturalistic
values. From the cultural and artistic point of view,
besides the various Etruscan and Roman remains, works
of Beato Angelico, Della Robbia, Botticelli, Benozzo
Gozzoli, Filippo Lippi, Donatello, Rossellino, Mino
da Fiesole, etc. can be found everywhere in the churches
and in the small museums of minor towns. Examples
of great architecture of Michelozzo, Giuliano da Sangallo,
Leon Battista Alberti are also very frequent. Many
places around Florence are known because here were
born or lived famous people: Giotto and Beato Angelico
were born in Vicchio del Mugello, Boccaccio was born
in Certaldo, in Vinci there are Leonardo native house
and museum, in Incisa Valdarno the father's house
of Petrarca, the humanist and philosopher Marsilio
Ficino was born in Figline, in Albergaccio di S.Andrea
in Percussina Machiavelli wrote "Il Principe".
Another subject can be represented by the Medicean
Villas and their gardens; as far as parks are concerned,
we remind of the one of Villa Demidoff in Pratolino
with the giant statue of the Apennines of Giambologna.
Numerous places keep old valuable handcraft traditions:
in Montelupo ceramics and glass, in Impruneta "Terracotta",
in Scarperia forged iron. Another immutable reference
bound to Tuscany and Florence, as well as her territory,
is the prestigious Chianti area with its typical hilly
landscape, where the vineyard geometries with the
different orientation of the perfectly aligned rows,
establish always different effects of colour and brightness.
Olive-groves alternate to vineyards and, here and
there, rows of cypresses, castles, farmhouses, old
parish churches, villas and gardens. In the most famous
centers, the noblest product of this land is celebrated
every year with important manifestations: the Chianti
Classico. As regards the landscape and environmental
aspects that characterize the whole Florentine area,
an outline should be made of the mountain areas: Vallombrosa,
surrounded by secular fir-woods, 958 m high and Consuma
about 1.000 m high on the arterial road SS n. 70 of
the Casentinese.
