SpasThe
Etruscan Coast.
There is a land in Tuscany, where a choice can be
easily made in every season. It is called the Etruscan
Coast: here time is holiday all over the year because
sea and nature, art and history live together in one
single, harmonious pattern. First of all, the crystalline
sea accompanied by deep, endless strands and salt-
and wind-smelling cliffs. The coast is dotted with
many and famous seaside resorts that were awarded
with the Blue Flag of the European Community for the
sea water quality. They offer hospitality and qualified
services. Then, the nature. An incredibly rich environment
shows parks and protected areas, botanic oases, animal
shelters crowded with rare and valued species, a vegetation
with many deep pine-forests and woods that embrace
the hills. The Oasis of Bolgheri, the Park of Magona,
the Park of Rimigliano and Sterpaia are only some
of the treasures of the Etruscan Coast's naturalistic
heritage. The countryside is crossed by the Wine Street,
where unique products, like Sassicaia are produced.
They are known all over the world. Between sea and
nature winds the other magic route of the Etruscan
Coast, the route that reveals the treasures of history,
art and culture protected by this land: the Etruscan
necropolis of Baratti, the only one that was built
on the sea, the Archaeomining Park of San Silvestro,
the historical villages of Suvereto, Campiglia, Populonia,
Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, untouched medieval
jewels, rich in remains. This route leads to Leghorn
chief town of the province, cross-point of populations
and cultures, home of artists. The old heart of this
town beats in the seventeenth-century quarters, in
the perimeter of the Fortresses, in the historical
quarters that were at the base of the "ideal
town" design, wished by the Medici-Family.
