SpasChianciano
Valdichiana.
The area where Chianciano Thermal Resort developed
is surrounded by woody hills that did not experience
the serious pollution problems; and this doubtlessly
represents the best safeguard of the ecological and
hydro-geological system of this territory, which is
rich in waters with highly curative properties. In
fact, in the area, which is actually becoming a sole,
broad thermal pole, there are other important thermal
baths: San Casciano dei Bagni and Montepulciano that
are very famous and visited at every time of the year
by many and affectionate international customers.
Even the town center, in perfect harmony with the
surrounding landscape, keeps in its numerous parks
and gardens a high quantity of green and offers all
climate and tourist advantages deriving from a suitable
geographic position. Thanks to the favourable position
and the high receptive offer, Chianciano very suitably
plays the role of support for visiting the numerous
art centers of Tuscany and neighbouring Umbria. We
should cite the very close Sarteano, Torrita, Trequanda,
Cortona; and - not even one hour far by car - Siena,
Florence, Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi, Todi and many others.
At a few kilometers we find two jewels: Montepulciano,
whose buildings and squares keep the magic "Cinquecento"
atmosphere untouched; and Pienza, designed by the
architect Rossellino for Pope Pius II, maybe the only
real representation of the Renaissance "ideal
town" existing in the world. The offer of cultural
or just enjoying manifestations of the whole area
is variegated and multiform; village festivals, folklore
and theatrical performances, concerts. Among the numerous
ones, we recall: "Bruscello", "Bravio
delle Botti" and "Cantiere dell'Arte"
in Montepulciano; "Giostra del Saracino"
in Sarteano; "Palio delle Torri" in Chiusi;
"Concerti in Terra di Siena" in Chianciano,
Pienza and Sinalunga. In Monticchiello - small hamlet
of Pienza - the "Teatro Povero" is spread
on place. It is a theatrical performance, whose subject
is elaborated and played with the active participation
of the whole community. In Chianciano a further cultural
occasion is represented by the wonderful Archaeological
Civic Museum "Delle Acque", carried out
with the innumerable archaeological remains that continue
to see the light even in the town center, thus demonstrating
the Etruscan origins of Chianciano. Discoveries follow
one after the other one also on the whole territory
and they led to the opening of the museums of Cetona,
Sarteano, Pienza not to mention the one of Chiusi,
which is now among the most important archaeological
museums of Italy.
