SpasAmiata.
One mountain for four seasons. At any time of the
year, Amiata is ready to offer qualified tourist occasions
for those who want to spend a holiday in this oasis
of peace and quietness. Fortresses and villages rich
in medieval traces, surrounded by a vegetation full
of forests and water courses offer to young and old
people occasions for a holiday based on art and sport.
Equipped tourist seasons in winter witness the opening
of the ski plants with over 15 km of slopes and 17
climbing plants. In spring and during the summer meadows
and countryside are the destination of riding-parties
and excursions along equipped paths. In autumn the
beech- and chestnut-woods become again the favourite
scenario of mushroom searchers, while in the vineyards
it is vintage time. The forest, absolute protagonist
of the earth of Amiata, brings on the table every
year its delicious products, from chestnuts to raspberries
and above all it offers very impressive routes to
nature and art scholars, to lovers of trekking and
walks in the open air. In Bagnore (S. Fiora) and Bagni
S. Filippo (Castiglione d'Orcia) there are thermal
establishments with thermal-mineral water for every
kind of treatment. Not only the naturalistic, but
also the social-cultural heritage of this area remained
untouched. This area is still strongly soaked in rural
traditions and covered with solidarity and hospitality
feelings. The natural beauties of the Amiata mountain
find an area of special value in the "Fauna Park",
an area of observation, study and research of the
variegated animal species. Here the wolf of the Apennines
finds hospitality and here an ecosystem is kept, assuring
the reproduction of foxes, buzzards, hawks, beech-martens,
weasels.
