Parks
and NatureNational Park of the Casentino Forests.
With three-quarters of its surface area covered by
forests, it is the greenest park of Italy.
An immense expanse of woods on the border between
Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, an oasis of nature and
silence, for centuries chosen by religious orders
as site of hermitages and monasteries.
Here you can admire more than one thousand different
flower species, or waterfalls worthy of fairytales,
like the one at Acquacheta, even described by Dante
in the Divine Comedy (Hell, sixteenth canto). The
park is home to roe, deer, fallow dear and wild boar,
all preys of the wolf which, following a long absence,
has only recently returned to successfully populate
this corner of the Apennines .
