Crèche Collection Anton Stabinger.
This collection consists of four panorama crèches
with a classical-oriental character along with numerous
Tyrolean crèches. A friend of crèches,
Anton Stabinger, a baker and innkeeper in Sexten,
began building oriental crèches after a pilgrimage
in 1906. He brought back sketches of holy sites with
him from the Holy Land and built the crèches
to scale. The splendid crèche figures stem
from the renowned Tyrolean woodcutters of the day
(Seisl, Gwercher, Speckbacher, Spiegl, and Tschutschenthaler).
After years of work on a minute scale, his grandson
of the same name has restored the crèches and
made them accessible to the public in the Hotel Mondschein.
