SiracusaPachino.
Traces have been found in the territory of prehistoric
settlements, of the Neolithic (grotta Corrugi) and
of the Metal Age (grotta Calafarina). The modem
town was founded in 1758 by Gaetano Starrabba Alagona
and populated by immigrants from the nearby island
of Malta.
The Chiesa Madre, Santissimo Crocifisso, founded
in the 18th c., with a single nave, is in Piazza
Vittorio Emanuele. Pachino is a breezy seaside town,
a fishing-port, and a well-known name also because
of its strong red wine.
