MessinaBrolo.
The town developed around the Lancia Castle; it
had a very busy port until the end ofthe 17th c.,
when it became silted up, after the floods of 1593
and 1682, by the mountain torrents that flow around
the outskirts of the town.
The Chiesa Madre, Our Lady of the Assumption, founded
in 1764, has canvas and wood-works. The recently
restored mediaeval castle makes an interesting visit;
it stilI possesses a tower of the original structure,
and it shows 16th c. additions in the boundary walls,
together with two doors bearing the coat of arms
of the Lancia Family, to whom it belonged.
