Founded in 1922, following a landslide which in
that year damaged San Fratello, the town of which
it was a ward until 1969.
Ever since the 15th c. there have been in this
stretch of coast a tunny-fishery and a loader for
the wheat from the inland area. The mediaeval castle,
although considerably altered in the course of time,
stili presents some interest. Half an hour' s walk
along a climbing path towards Pizzo Castellano will
take us to the Grotta di San Teodoro, a cave where
important upper Palaeolithic fossils have been found,
as well as graves, skeletons, trinkets and various
tools.
