EnnaBarrafranca.
This is probably the ancient Hybla Heraia or Galeota
or Galatina, later Romanized with the name Callonania.
In Norman times it was called Convincino; it became
a fief of the Barresi farnily around the year 1330.
Two hundred years later, Matteo Barresi of Pietraperzia
further developed the town, rebuilding parts of
it, and gave it its present name.
The Chiesa Madre, in Piazza Notaio Filippo Mondavì,
is a 17th c. church decorated internally with frescoes
and stuccos. A painting of Santa Maria della Purificazione
is very likely by Filippo Paladini. The Chiesa di
Santa Maria dell'Itria contains a painting of the
Our Lady of the Annunciation attributed to Mattia
Preti.
