CataniaGravina di Catania.
An ancient settlement, raised to a Principality
of the Valguarnera family in 1646; its present-day
name comes from the Gravina family, who for centuries
were the feudal lords of the town: the full name
is Gravina di Catania, to distinguish it from Gravina
di Puglia.
The Chiesa Madre, dedicated to St Anthony of Padua,
has a typical cuspshaped campanile and despite extensions
carried out in the 19th c. stili demonstrates the
baroque character of the previous century.
