CaltanissettaVillalba.
A hamlet stood here in Arab times, and it stilI
existed in 1175. The modern town was founded by
Nicolò Palmieri Calafato in 1753.
The Chiesa Madre, dedicated to the patron St Joseph,
takes up one side of the wide Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.
A statue of the saint, sculpted by Filippo Quattrocchi
in the 18th c., is in the church. Another statue
by the same Palermo sculptor stands above the main
altar of the Chiesa della Concezione, in Piazza
Marconi. The 18th c. Palazzo del Barone Palmieri
Morillo is situated between the old roads formerly
known as Via del Fico and Via San Luce (now Via
Roma and Via Cesare Battisti).
