CaltanissettaDelia.
Founded in 1622 by Giuseppe Lucchesi, it 1ater belonged
to the Ortolanis and the Gravinas, with the title
of Marquisate. Its development was promoted by the
nearby sulphur mines, now inactive. The town layout
is regu1ar, with parallel and perpendicular streets,
blocks with internal spaces and courtyards grouping
the houses and the wells together: clear testimonies
of Arab building traditions.
The Chiesa Madre, Santa Maria di Loreto, dating
from the first decades of the l7th c., is in Piazza
del Castello.
