The original town was on the Cicaldo Hill, NW of
the present site; this was progressively abandoned
after the foundation in 1574 of the new town, which
developed under the Gioeni family in the two following
centuries.
The old town, in a fine scenographic position,
is still of some architectural and historical interest.
The Chiesa Madre, Santa Maria della Catena, is in
Via Matrice in the new town.
