AgrigentoLinosa.
Sparsely populated in Roman and later in Arab times,
Linosa probably served as a supply station for ships
engaged in the slave trade. When the Govemor Bemardo
Maria Sanvisente landed on the island with a following
of 40 persons in 1845 with the intention of founding
a colony also here, he found it uninhabited, but
with clear signs of previous settlements, such as
Roman water-tanks, Arab traces and other signs.
