AgrigentoJoppolo Giancaxio.
It was founded in 1693 in the Giancaxio fief by
Calogero Gabriele Colonna, who received the estate
from his wife Donna Rosaia Ioppolo. A fief of the
Colonnas until 1812, it was then part of Aragona
until1890; it belonged to Raffadali, from 1892 to
1926, in which year it became an autonomous commune.
The town developes regularly along the two intersecting
main streets of Corso Umberto and Via Progresso,
where the 18th c. Chiesa Madre is to be seen. The
Castle of the Colonna family, built in the l8th
c., has a tower and embattled walls; it is now private
property.
