Val di Vara.
The great valley of the Vara river, which runs between
hills and pastures for nearly 70 kilometers, is
a place where nature has lived in harmony with man
for millennia. Vast grassy pastures alternating
with forests of chestnuts, beeches, and pines compose
the rich wooded regions of Varese Ligure, one of
the most extensive in the region.
In an area that has always been an important crossroads
for communications and commerce between the La Spezia
gulf and the Genoa area, this large community has
developed the Biological Valley, a project encompassing
numerous companies and producers who follow specific
criteria for the authenticity and quality of the
cultivated products.
The local flavors are only one reason for the interest
in the valley: its river offers rafting and other
outdoor activities, while the hills are ideal for
excursions to discover landscapes that preserve
traces of rural culture stretching back a thousand
years. Along the paths, visitors will encounter
small clusters of stone houses, mills, country churches,
and sanctuaries, which tell the tale of the past
and present lives of the farmers who inhabit this
area inland from Cinque Terre.
