On
horseback.
Tourism on horseback has found many enthusiasts
among nature-lovers in recent years: because of
the variety of its landscape, the large percentage
of green areas and the sheer number of natural itineraries,
Liguria can satisfy both beginners and expert horse-riders.
Of course, you should never go off on your own along
these paths and always choose paths that you know
to be open and always ride safely; and you should
always look for reliable advice from the information
centres you will find along the way: not all of
the paths shown on commercial maps are necessarily
safe, since they are not cleaned or maintained regularly.
The Ligurian Alta Via, which runs right across the
whole region from east to west, is without doubt
the most charming itinerary, especially on horseback,
because it offers such rich variety; it can also
be travelled in its entirety, with stop-overs at
night, or you can just select parts of it for one-day
excursions. Many parts of the Ligurian Alta Via
have facilities for this kind of excursion.
The farm holiday facilities and horse-riding centres
throughout the hinterland also offer a good departure-point
for a safe outing on horseback.
