Filiano.
This village has a peculiar structure with a central
core and 35 smaller villages spread into 7 main areas.
Its name probably comes from ‘spinning of wool’,
a wide-spread activity because of the several sheep
farming places.
The Church of Santa Maria del Rosario, built in 1830,
has one nave and a marble altar.
Just outside the village some rock paintings were
found, representing hunts in ochre colours, and showing
that this area was already lived in during pre-history.
Filiano is famous for its very good cheeses, in particular
the ‘pecorino’, which is very well appreciated.
