Brindisi di Montagna.
Brindisi di Montagna used to be overlooked by its
Castle, built around the XIII century and destroyed
by a earthquake in 1694, of which only very little
is left. The cultural heritage of this village is
mostly in its old centre, with its churches and the
‘Municipio’, where some paintings by Donato
Allegretti, an artist born in Brindisi, are kept.
In the Main Church of S. Nicola, built in the XIV
century and rebuilt in 1595, there is an altar in
multicoloured marble and behind the statue of S. Nicola
can be found. On the right of the transept there is
the wooden statue of the Madonna del Rosario, of the
XVIII century, while on the left a canvas representing
the ‘Madonna del Carmine’. In Brindisi
there is also the beautiful Church of Maria Santissima
delle Grazie (1595).
The ‘Parco della Grancia’, which has
been created very recently, is an important attraction
for tourists.
