Albano di Lucania.
Being a small village, Albano slips the travellers'
attention and they almost miss it. Situated on top
of a mountain, 900 metres high, it seems to be almost
a forgotten corner, plunged into silence.
Its position, on one of the peaks that belong to
the Dolomiti Lucane, gives it a characteristic aspect.
The landscape in front of it is an evocative and picturesque
scenery, high peaks and wide valleys follow one another
to infinity. The village is a tangle of narrow streets
and lanes leading to small squares.
The stone portals of the palaces are rather beautiful
and so is the Church of S. Maria Assunta, of the XIII
century, where some frescos of the XIII and IV centuries,
together with a valuable painting of the XVII century,
represent the Madonna del Rosario, by Pietrafesa.
